“One by one, made with care”:
This is what has been passed down.

Beginning

Our beginning: 1839

YAMAZATOYA’s beginning dates back to 1839. During then, the Rokkaku River was one of the main stream for shipping transportation, and thus the Takahashi district, which was its bedtown, was the center of logistics and commerce. Here, our ancestor Bunzo Yamaguchi started “Kadoya Sahei”, which is now YAMAZATOYA.

Development

In order to make confectionery that is never forgotten

When “Takeo Onsen Romon” was built in 1915, YAMAZATOYA opened its doors in Takeo Onsen and has been there ever since. As fourth generation Sahei Yamaguchi developed “YURI YOKAN”, which won first prize at a national Local Specialty Exhibit, we developed “YUZU MONAKA”, “YUNOTSUYU” and “MARUBORO”, which lead us to become one of Saga’s leading confectionery store.
Today, we hold pride in our handmade and strictly selected confectionery which are known to be Takeo Onsen’s signature sweets, and will continue to make confectionery that will never be forgotten.

“Sugar Road” of Nagasaki Kaido

Nagasaki Kaido is known as the “Sugar Road” because of its history of imported sugar and sweets. For more than 400 years, it has developed its own sugar and confectionery culture, and as it connects Nagasaki, Saga and Kokura, it has passed down its tradition to these areas. In 2020, Nagasai Kaido was certified as a Japanese Heritage that contributed to spread the culture of sugar.
